| 11-22-09 / A RECAP ON THE 2009 ICEMAN COMETH.
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
WOW, what a trip this year! So much more stress over coordinating the camera operators and times of the race starts on race day. A few things that were different this year from the past couple of years are;
- I used 7 operators this year.(including myself)
- I teamed up with Rent-A-Center and had to sign for a TV on the Friday of the big expo.
- I brought a lot of infrastructure.
- I included an interviewer throughout the event.
A few things that went well and will be included next year are;
- The extra videos we brought sold pretty good. (these were 2007 & 2008 left overs)
- The canopy tent worked well. (It helped to gain exposure.)
- I will use Rent A Center again...
- Having someone I can trust working behind the table for the weekend was a huge benefit.
- The group of people I asked to come and help me out, were incredible! I hope to be able to call on them again for other projects.
- THE NEW CAMERA WORKED WELL.
- Having the Net Book at the site helped because people could preorder with their credit card by clicking the PayPal button on our website.
A few things that didnt work so well;
- Too many people stood around and watched the whole DVD that was playing, for about 25mins on average before telling me that they loved the video, but werent interested in buying the 2009 video.
- A video camera that I sent in just before the event, had failed, causing all of that video that was taped using that camera, to not work.
- Getting any footage after the race at the bars, following the icecup.
- Passing out flyers! Wow, people are cranky when approached with a flyer.
- I needed to be in the woods... This year I focused more on the finish and that left me feeling like I had to reley on the other guys too much. I feel that if I'm the one leading others into this event, then I should be filming the difficult stuff also. Noone is to good and that goes double for me. The guys filmed great from the trail!

This is the 2009 DVD cover that won the vote... 25 grey & 23 blue. The white area will be masked over with a mess of different photos.
The 2009 Iceman Cometh "EVENT" video has broke all Mashers Media records for views! It broke 2,000 views in 7 days... THANKS FOR ALL OF THE SUPPORT!
New things for 2010;
- "The Masher Challenge" we will be offering $150.00 to the first person from the PRO class and the Single Speed class! In return each person allows us to hook up a helmet cam to their bike and they MUST finish in the top 10 of their class to get paid... (This was also taken to a vote on our BLOG and these two classes were the highest voted.
- We are going to make a 5minute teaser and loop it. Thats right! Folks arent watching the whole DVD for free. (I felt like I owned a news paper stand on the sidewalks of New York. )
- I need one more major camera operator to make three of us and then I can continue using two or three of the existing camera operators to help fill the gaps along the course.
- I will have two helmet cams running.
- The roaming interviewer all day Friday and Sat. has huge potential and will happen again and more organized then this year.
The 2009 Iceman DVD is coming right along and will still need about 50hrs this week to be where I want to be right before Thanksgiving... (The in laws will love to screen a bike race video, LOL.)
So much of the success of covering this event depends on the staff to operate all of the tasks through out the weekend, the equipment working properly, trying new things while trying to not lose sight of the existing things that are working. a few very long and trying days for not only myself but the staff, and most importantly - being willing to sacrafice a ton for the love of the sport and trying to get others to understand that a price is warrented and should be supported in order for the videos to continue to exist.
Thanks again to everyone who supports Mashers Media and for those who took the time to allow us to interview you!

| 10-24-09 / HERE IT IS, THE FINAL ROSTER...
|
|
|
|
| |
|
Well, I am finally ready. For the first time in 3yrs, I have my team roster put together and it appears to be solid. Here is who is doing what;
- Jermey Tremp / He owns Radiant Pictures and is out of the Grand Rapids area. He has lots of really cool equip. and will have some incredible footage to add to the over all quality of the DVD.
- Joe Ahsley / Joe has been filming for me since day one. He is very creative and has the ablility to always position himself where the action is.
- Brandon Groleau / Brandons a fellow Sandbagger who wants to help us out by filming from the sides of the trail for about an 8mile stretch.
- Kim Polzin / She owns Photography By Kimberly Ann. She is also handy with the video camera and was talked into staging around the half way point for the day.
- Jeff Simpson / Jeff is also a fellow Sandbagger who is also interested in showing his filming skills from the sides of the trail, for a 5miles stretch of the trail.
THE MASHER CAM! Todd Powers and Danielle Musto both agreed to attach our helmet cam to there bikes.
- Todd Powers has been a fellow Team Sandbag member for the last 5yrs the team has been in existance. He races the EXPERT almost old guy class, and I'm sure his footage will be full of action as places are being traded on the race to the finish!
- Danielle Musto is a pro women racer from right here in MI! She finished around 7TH last year and will have some awesome race footage to share with the rest of us, on her quest for 1ST.
THE GIFF! Giff will be playing the role of Rory Caldwell - the 1974 jump rope WORLD CHAMPION! He will be interviewing folks all day Friday and most of the day Saturday.
Joe Ashley will be following Giff all day friday then again in the morning before the race as well as after the awards! THATS RIGHT, CAMERAS WILL BE ROLLING AT THE AFTER PARTIES WHILE GIFF CONTINUES TO INTERVIEW PEOPLE ALL NIGHT LONG!!!
PHOTOGRAPHY; Andrea Tucker will be shooting photographs throughout the weekend much like last year. She said she will try and get over 2,000 photos for me to edit into this years DVD! (Please look for Dave and his incredible finish line shots as always...)

| Whats new with Masher's Media... 10/09/09
|
|
|
|
| |
|
Part of growing is learning what NOT to continue doing and to except change. My name is Mike and I am the owner of Masher's Media. I have stepped back in 2009 and evaluated how things have been operating within MashersMedia. I am excited to tell you about all of the changes to our web site and even a few changes in the equipment we have been using.
- The web site has been completely erased and redeveloped with more changes to b completed in the coming months. Please try and be patient while I continue to work through the rest of the web site.
- NEW FOR 2010, is our video page. Masher's Media will now be able to host our own videos! No more relying on YouTube for video services. Dont worry though, I will still be posting the latest videos to YouTube and MySpace due to the over whelming amount of people who use these sights. Our new video player can be copy and pasted anywhere on the web and has the option of viewing in HD just like YouTube...
- NEW FOR 2010, Masher's Media will be shooting photographs! This has been a growing interest that is now become a reality. We will; be using SMUG MUG to view our photos and manage the sales of any photography projects.
- NEW FOR 2010, is our store page. You will be able to order any of our DVDs as well as clothing and other items.
- Our contact page will have boxes that we are asking get filled out before a email can be sent. This will help us understand how we can change to meet the needs of those who visit our site and to help us understand where people found out about us at.
- In the coming days a testimonial page will be developed from what the past customers reviews are on different types of projects we have done.
- NEW FOR 2010 is, "THE SCOOP" this is our current news page. There will be a brief sentence followed by the linked back to our web site page. These brief posts will be on our blog, Facebook, and MySpace pages.
- Our BAND page is rebuilt but much the same as it was. Please take the time to research the band behind a favorite song. With out the music our videos can not be unique! PLEASE TELL THEM THEY ROCK! We already know...
